Following the announcement by Buckingham Palace on Thursday 8th September, Mayor of Exmouth, Councillor Steve Gazzard has issued the following statement after the passing of Her Majesty, The Queen.

“I am very saddened to hear that Her Majesty, The Queen has passed away. She was a wonderful servant to our country and has played such a significant part in most of our lives, it is difficult to imagine life without her. We will mourn her loss for a considerable time and our thoughts are with her family.”

“As a mark of respect, flags at the Town Hall, Town Centre and Jubilee Clock Tower are being flown at half-mast during the mourning period but will be raised briefly to celebrate the proclamation of the new King.”

“To allow people to pay their respects a book of condolence has been opened at the Town Hall, details of opening times can be found on our website. ”

“If residents would like to show their respects to Her Majesty the Queen, flowers can be left around and in front of the war memorial at The Strand in Exmouth, or you can donate to one of The Queen’s charities.”

Flags to be flown at half-mast across East Devon as country mourns

The Union Flag will be flown at half-mast across East Devon, joining the country as it mourns the longest reigning monarch in British history.
Locations include:
• Exmouth – Town Hall
• Exmouth – Jubilee Clock Tower
• Exmouth – Adj. LED, Town Centre
• Exmouth – By the lifeboat stand
• Exmouth – Manor gardens

Books of condolence will be available to sign online and in person at the Town Hall

A book of condolence will be available for anyone to sign at Exmouth Town Hall, St Andrews Road, Exmouth, EX8 1AW from 9am Friday, 9 September until 5pm on Tuesday 20th September.

A book of condolence has also been opened at the Holy Trinity Church, Rolle Street, Exmouth, EX8 2AB and is available 9am – 5pm every day until Tuesday 20th September.

Flower tributes, paying respect to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Second, welcomed at The Strand

Residents wanting to lay tributes, joining the country in mourning after the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Second, are invited to do so around and in front of the war memorial at The Strand in Exmouth.

Please note, once the floral tributes start to decay, EDDC will collect them and send them for composting locally. The compost will then be used for agriculture in the Southwest and in our parks.

Private prayer, service of mourning and commemoration of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Second at Holy Trinity Church

Holy Trinity Church is open between 9am and 5pm every day for private prayer and reflection.

At 10am on the coming Sunday 11th September, there will be a service of mourning and reflection in memory of Her Majesty, The Queen.

At 10am on Sunday 18th September, there will be a Holy Communion Service in commemoration of Her Majesty, The Queen.
