INTRODUCING THE EXMOUTH CUP

Exmouth Town Council and Sideshore have launched a reusable cup for Exmouth. They have bought 10,000 of these cups which will be gifted to cafes in the town. And in turn, the cafes will promote the cups to their customers – free to borrow and return to any participating café.

Participating cafés

The goal is for every café to take part and there are now more than 25 cafes participating in the scheme! Here are the places where you can borrow and/or drop off an Exmouth Cup: Sea Dog Art Gallery; Parallel 50; Deli on the Strand; Postcards; Sundowners; The Cabin; Harbour View Cafe; Hangtime, Darcey’s; EX8 1AR Deli & Store; Palm; Mickeys; Wine Hub; The Pavilion; Ocean; Antonio’s; Franklins; The Italian Store; Project X Kitchen at the Heavitree Pub, Open Door, Bumble and Bee, Bumble and Sea, Bumble and Tee, Bayleaf and Star Cafe. You can also drop off Exmouth Cups at the Town Hall (Monday to Friday, 9am -4pm).

Did you know …?

  • 2.5 billion single-use coffee cups are discarded globally every year.
  • If a person throws away one coffee cup a day, that’s 11kg of waste per year.
  • Only around 1% of single-use cups are recycled as they are lined with plastic.

An item that is only used for the time it takes to drink a coffee, takes centuries to break down.

The Exmouth cups have been bought to reduce the amount of waste from single-use cups. The aim is for each Exmouth Cup to be used time and time again – eventually replacing all of the disposable cups in town.

What’s the cup made from?

The Exmouth cup is made from polypropylene, manufactured in the UK.

  • It has a lower environmental impact than single-use paper cups after just 3 uses.
  • It is robust and designed to last for hundreds of uses.
  • The cup is insulated so hands are safe, but it keeps your drink hot in the same way that a single use paper cup does.
  • It can fit a regular (recyclable) takeaway lid.

I’ll drink to that!

The Exmouth Cup scheme makes it easy (and cost-effective) for coffee shops to provide reusable cups. Consumers will have no excuse not to use them.
