Platinum Jubilee Oak Tree

Oak Tree planted in Phear Park in commemoration of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

Platinum Jubilee celebrations are occurring throughout the United Kingdom, Commonwealth, and across the globe, to celebrate 70 years of service by Her Majesty, The Queen. This remarkable achievement is the first time a British Monarch will have celebrated a Platinum Jubilee. Platinum Jubilee Celebrations will culminate on the UK Bank Holiday weekend from Thursday 2nd to Sunday 5th June.

The first of Exmouth’s celebrations is the planting of an Oak tree in Phear Park.

Councillors planting an Oak tree in Phear Park

East Devon District Council gifted 70 oak saplings to each East Devon Town or Parish community and Exmouth Town Council chose Phear Park to plant the oak sapling. The resultant special network across the district of commemorative oak trees, renowned for their longevity, strength, and unique position in the national landscape, will offer many other collective opportunities and serve as an important local ‘memory jogger’ recognising our Carbon Neutral and environment priorities.

Councillor Steve Gazzard, Mayor of Exmouth, said, “We’re very excited to have planted this tree which will be a reminder for many years to come and we are grateful to EDDC for implementing this scheme.”

The tree planting is one of many plans to take place in Exmouth. The jubilee beacon lighting is to take place on Thursday 2nd June and the jubilee big lunch on Sunday 5th June. There is also a special jubilee beacon trail starting on 30th April. More information on all these plans will be published very soon – just visit our website www.exmouth.gov.uk or contact us on 01395 276167 or email us at reception@exmouth.gov.uk for more details.
