Part of a small team of supplementary town maintenance operatives reporting to the Deputy Clerk, the successful applicant will be responsible for maintenance, cleanliness and general up-keep of the Town, including areas previously supported by the County or District Councils. 

Main responsibilities will include but not exhaustive of:

  • Sweeping, weeding and clearing of overgrowth in streets and lanes around Exmouth including outlying areas
  • The maintenance and cleaning of street furniture
  • The spraying of weeds 
  • The reporting and removal of Graffiti 
  • General maintenance and assistance as directed by the Deputy Clerk 
  • Providing patrol duties as well as education and information on dog control to the public
  • Watering of town flower towers using towed water bowser

Skills: 

  • Relevant experience 
  • Full UK Driving Licence is essential 
  • Good communication skills
  • Good organisational skills, with an observant eye for detail
  • Ability to use initiative whilst working unsupervised
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Ability to use a range of heavy-duty power tools and cleaning equipment and willing to follow safety rules
  • A flexible and versatile approach to work
  • Able to work outside all year round 
  • Prepared to undertake relevant training 
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety requirements and responsibilities 

Conditions: 

  • You would spend a lot of time on your feet
  • You could be outdoors in all weathers
  • You would generally work 37 hours, Monday to Friday, with an early start and might include bank holidays
  • You might have to work overtime including evenings or weekends 
  • The work can be messy and dirty 
  • You need to wear protective clothing and gloves.
