Exmouth Town Council receives Quality Award

In May 2021, Exmouth Town Council was awarded the Quality Award level of the Local Council Award Scheme (LCAS), which recognises good practice in governance, community engagement and council improvement.

Delivered by the National Association of Local Councils (NALC), LCAS has been designed to provide a framework to support all local councils to improve and develop to meet their full potential. The scheme offers councils the opportunity to show that they meet the standards set by the sector, assessed by their peers, and to put in place the conditions for continued improvement.

Having held the Foundation Award level for several years, Exmouth Town Council has now become one of only seven town and parish councils in Devon to receive the higher Quality Level accreditation. Councillor Steve Gazzard, Chairman of Exmouth Town Council, commented, “This is a huge recognition of the hard work the Council strives towards in achieving good governance and policies. We are extremely proud in gaining this award and I would like to thank all our staff and Councillors who have worked towards us achieving this recognition”.

The award is a significant acknowledgement of Exmouth Town Council’s efforts in particular to increase awareness and transparency of its activities, with much greater and more timely access to information through its website and development of a social media presence. It has also sought community engagement on a number of key recent initiatives, such as working with local community groups like Transition Exmouth to develop Exmouth’s response to the Climate Emergency, promoting local recycling through the bicycle reuse scheme in collaboration with Exeter-based Ride On, and supporting the crowdfunded Beach Wheelchair Project due to launch this summer.

More information on Exmouth Town Council’s activities, including the latest notes of all committee and working party meetings, can be found on the Council’s website.
